Fore! The Best Golf Courses Around Harris County, GA

April 18, 2015

In the past, I’ve highlighted some of my favorite parts of Harris County, GA, from breweries to places to get married. Through it all, one thing is clear: we are spoiled with outdoor activities.

Highlighted by The Masters tournament in Augusta, golf has a long tradition in Georgia. As you can expect, we have some of the finest courses in and around Harris County.

Conversations about the golf courses in the area begin with Callaway Gardens. Not only is it the top course in Harris County, it’s considered as one of the top weekend destination spots in the country.

Callaway Gardens features two 18 hole courses – one that takes you through the lakes (appropriately called Lake View) and the other that takes you through the mountains (called Mountain View, to continue the theme).

The Mountain View course, considered the more difficult of the two, hosted the Buick Challenge from 1991 to 2002.

In addition to the golf course, amateurs and pros alike also get access to the Callaway Gardens resort, elevating this to a great weekend destination.

The Maple Ridge Golf Club in Columbus, GA bills itself as the area’s friendliest and most affordable golf course. Designed by 1987 Masters winner Larry Mize, the course prides itself on its diverse players and availability to the public.

The club falls in the range of country club and public, with affordable membership fees. In addition, the course hosts both youth and adult tournaments open to golfers in the area.

Similar to the Callaway Gardens course, the Bull Creek Course features two PGA level 18 hole courses.

The challenging courses were ranked as a top 25 public course in the country by Golf Digest. If you take the challenge, you’ll be in good company, as it hosts many prestigious high school, college, and pro tournaments.

Bull Creek is a public course, making it a must stop for any avid player. In addition, it’s open every day except Christmas from 8 am to dark, and features some of the most affordable rates you’ll find with a course of this caliber. Bull Creek may be the best value for area golfers.

Located in Warm Springs, GA, the Roosevelt Memorial Golf Course features a 9 hole course. As such, it’s a great place for beginners to work on their game in a low pressure environment. The best yet, this course is open to the public.
